And when I went to the new Win8 Laptop and tried to install it after downloading the new UPD for Win8 64x , again, same problem like before.
It is one of the very complicated process. Here's is how. Why auto install Found new equipment do work it will install the printer, but it is not a good install. It installed the Dynamic Mode that I was not able to assign a printer to it. Why there are two drivers step 8 to choose and the one with Version 5. Here is another weird thing. But it will not directly install it to DOT4.
Installing HP Lasejet in Windows 8 with USB connection
Also, I have another printer runining the old version of UPD. I don't have to do anything with it and it works the same after I install the new With that, I guess I had resolved all my issue with the Windows 8. Let's hope MS is not going to f k it up in Windows 8. Always uninstall the old drivers first. Every HP printer I have had you must install the software first before you ever connect the printer, if you don't it will fail.
Uninstall the old printer, unplug the USB install the new software at that point you get two options. Power down connect the printer and power back up and windows installer will finish the install and detect all the right settings. Read the notes indicated for your model, win 8 natively supports the device as well as provided by win update.
This is the driver you ultimately want to run "UPD", this explains why, you want to share it and with varied OSs, it simplifies it Latest version dated 1 July According to the following link, the laserjet the series? That link "win 8 HP printer support", it shows your model "" as supported and exactly how it is supported. I think your instinct that the UPD is not working because it is not compatible with your settup is correct:.
I think that is probably because It is covered under UPD I am really frustrated now. I delete the printer from the printer folder. Downloaded the new Universal driver and it tried to install. It recognized the printer, but it could not find the driver. It is looking for the HPC24c I even tried to run update and it still would not work.
Aha I see I didn't explain the UPD correctly, has to do with multiple printers supported using single driver rather than systems accessing them, sorry if added to confusion with that. Should have read more than the first paragraph assuming rest!

It is after all a workgroup printer. I am sorry if I sound frustrated because I am. Installing a printer, which I had done over hundreds of times, should not be this difficult. I got really confused when Gem was talking about client side and server side installation.
I have a simple network where I have a router hooked up to the cable modem. I have a few machines hooked up, wired or wireless, to the router. I have a XP machine that I want to hook up a HPLJ and I want the other machines to be able to send print queues thru the network as described above.
I was doing just that when all my machines were on XP3. I don't know what I had done I was trying a lot of things , but I found that there are two installation of the in the XP's Printer and Fax folder. I was able to send a test print successfully. I went to the Win8 laptop, and surprisingly, I was able to connect to the XP's and send a test print.
Everything works the way it should, except I don't know what I have done to get to this result.
It seems that if I plug the to the USB port and reboot the machine, it will reinstall the two printers in the Printer and Fax folder. But at this point, if I tried to right click on any one of the , it open up a pop up to ask me to identify a printer. I was not able to find the When I entered the ip address which I copied down before , it doesn't recognize it.
You really should not have deleted both of them you had it working, it stated if ended up with more than one copy installed to simply remove the second copy, the copy not marked as default. Or in your case whichever one wasn't used for the test marked "default" or not.
Shouldn't be any problem getting back to that point again, shouldn't be If result in two copies again just delete the driver not marked "Default". If you have port issues, you shouldn't but if you do under properties for that printer you can toggle port its assigned to until hit on the one that works.
Keep in mind its not installed as a Panasonic its a Panasonic printer but its installed as a Epsom using the Epsom driver. Its connected via an adapter and a virtual printer port, little more involved than a simple direct USB connection! And you'd only have to do so one time, once set there would be no need or reason to change it unless perhaps if you change USB port on the computer and it doesn't automatically follow as it should.
Multi-function printers use DOT4 printer ports, which are virtual devices, to communicate and transfer data with Windows. If you have a multi-function printer that If you have no idea.. Perhaps it will come back to you when you approach the project fresh.. Best if that memory is not clouded by my guesses. I see it often myself. Removing a printer from Devices and printers does just that, right clicking clicking on "remove" removes the entry nothing more.

When reinstall that same printer via the "add a printer" wizard you will be asked and my wording might not be exact "Drivers for this printer are already installed, use those or install those selected" then given option to check "use existing xxxxx", tic that box to use the driver already installed, or leave box un tic'd to new driver. When tic box to use the existing driver the end result is a single entry for said printer under "Device and printers" "Printers and faxes" in XP.
Do not tic that box installing new driver results in two entries showing for that same printer, one for the previous install and a second for the new install for same printer.
And no removing that second entry or leaving in place makes no difference, won't hurt anything. Unless user has done something they both do work, say user changed USB port or channged it that could render the original entry no longer functioning.
I know I UPD has nothing to do with that in my case as my printers while are HP 3 of them do not support the universal print driver series, not offered not an option. My printers are all of the basic home type and not business class models such as the OP is working with here. Anyway I believe that is the reason the OP in reinstalling the printer that results in dual entries rather than one for it, when the "add a printer" option is used. Skip to main content.
